I was born in the great state of Texas, in Dallas . I grew up on a steady diet of Texas football: Texas Longhorns - surely you’ve heard of Vincent Young - and the Dallas Cowboys, “God’s Team” (don’t take my word for it, it’s somewhere in the bible; the book of Job, I think.) I have remained here in Texas throughout my life. I’ve lived in Austin (), where I met my lovely wife; Houston, birthplace of my first son, now 9; and currently Pearland where we rounded out the family with a second son, now 6.
Aside from my boys, it seems as if I’m one of the few native Texans in the area. Pearland, it turns out, is an international melting pot. After settling here, it was only a matter of time before I would meet the first of many foreigners, Jamie Burchell, in 2003. (He was born in New York ; I have difficulty understanding him at times). Our common cause is our support for the greatest FOOTBALL team in the universe, the Dallas Cowboys, whose crime against humanity is their playing only 16-20 games per year.
Fast forward to 2006 and it is then that I first meet the McGuigans. It was not long before I was indoctrinated in the cult spirit of Glasgow Celtic. It has become weekend routine over the last three seasons for me to wake up early, grab coffee and head to Chris’s to watch a match. Jamie was soon to follow. I knew I was committed after feeling the disappointment of this last, dreadful season. (You’re not a fan if you celebrate the wins but don’t care about the losses.)
Chris and I discussed his idea for a podcast in late June, and I thought, given the subject and a little talent (i.e., not me; I’m standing in until the talent arrives) it would be worth a listen and at the very least a lot of fun. And so it goes
