Victor Wanyama is fast becoming an icon amongst the Celtic support. His consistency since becoming a first pick has been remarkable for someone at the tender age of 20, not to mention plying his trade on foreign shores.

For any proof you need at how well the young Kenyan has been playing you need only look at the POTY page on this very site. Every week we run a poll on the right-hand side there where you vote for your top 3 performers. MOTM gets 3 points, 2nd place 2 points and 3rd, 4th and 5th a point a piece. Victor was already 6 points ahead of the posse going into Saturdays game against Hearts. By the time the poll closes when we play our next match he should be 9 points clear at the top of the table.

He’s been consistently voted in the top 2 almost every match he has played.

A few eyebrows were raised by some when Wanyama claimed the iconic number 67 for his squad number but it’s now only added to his popularity. Let’s make no mistake about it his winning goal yesterday was absolutely vital in the chase for the title and it was a goal worthy of the 3 points.

Of course big Forster’s penalty save at the end was equally important to the cause and justified for that matter as it was never a penalty in a month of Sundays. Shambolic refereeing seems to be a weekly topic for everyone now and it seems the h*ns with whistles are getting steadily worse. Ask yourself this question. How often do you come away from a European match where the performance of the referee is a major talking point…

Not very often is the answer!

Back to the penalty though and the importance of the save can’t be highlighted enough. We need to be as close as possible to rangers going into the derby game on the 28th and all things being equal I still fully expect us to be top of the SPL table going into 2012. I watched the second half of the Hibs game on Saturday and to say our rivals are poor would be an understatement. A convincing win against them in a couple of weeks and change time could be the catalyst of a massive power shift in the city. We have the resources it’s time to flex our muscles.

One thing yesterdays game did remind me of was the celebrations in November 1987 when Paul McStay hit a last minute equaliser in a 2 v 2 draw v Hearts at Celtic Park. I was in the Celtic End that day having failed to arrive early enough to get in the Jungle. I can still remember the pandemonium that winters evening and yesterday similar emotions radiated from the stands as FF got a strong hand to the Hearts penalty and finally cut off their life support machine.

In all honesty it was no more than the Edinburgh men deserved as their kicking Celtic off the park and time wasting from 60 minutes onwards was nothing short of disgraceful, but then we’ve come to expect that from these thugs so nobody was really surprised by their actions. Maybe the fact they ain’t getting paid has had them resort to not playing a game that looks remotely like football but then again as I said it’s pretty much the norm for these despicable ‘footballers’. It’s hard to use the word footballer when your describing a team that has Ian Black at the centre of it though…

If the 3 points were celebrated with gusto at the final whistle it was more down to the late drama and importance of the points than the performance we had bare witness to. The opening 45mins were instantly forgettable and there were more misplaced passes than I care to remember as we struggled to find any opening against a crowded defensive unit.

While we were winning plenty of ball in the centre of the park through big Vic and Kayal they were finding it hard to pick out the passes. Forrest looked our most likely avenue for an opening in the first half but even he was finding himself being shown inside where there was little room to create. Indeed it seemed our best opportunities might come from a free-kick after young James won foul after foul from the Heartschettmen. Personally I was hoping one of our many corners would find the head of big Glenda at 25/1 to open the scoring but it wasn’t to be.

The second half was more huff and puff as Hearts again did their best to frustrate by breaking up play by any means possible and now the added annoyance of blatant time wasting. To be fair I think a couple of Hearts players were booked for this at the free-kick that led to Wanyama’s screamer.

Wanyama’s screamer, what a goal, Forster’s hand, what a save and these are the memories we’ll take from this match along with the three points, oh and…

Heart of Midlothian FC, what a shower of vile chunts.

hearts played well and did not kick celtic off the park and were no spoilers.
you have no defense and hooper and stokes are npower quality at best.
these will be exploited by rangers as they were last time. nothing has changed including who is at the top of the league for the last 31/2 years.

Hearts were woeful. All they did was pack the defence and kick any football player. Coupled with some very poor officiating throughout the match that let them get away with it I can see why Rangers fans would be confident. That’s the usual nonsense that tends to get Rangers a good result after all.

“Hearts played well?” ok then….you mean Hertz tried to defend well because they had no interest in tryin to score and actually again it makes me laugh like most other teams in Shameland , they like to up their game for the Hoops.

As for being exploited by Rankgers lol do me a favour….thats happened once this year in the last 7 old firms of 2011 and the way Ragers are playin CFC will annihilate them.

No defence? pmsl aye and you’s have a perfect defence right? out 3 cups and squander 15 pt lead this season…the hoops still running on all 4 fronts muppet! Not 1 Rank player would walk into that CFC team…give me Stokes and Hooper any day before the prolific penalty pansy. Ok maybe McGregor but after FF’s recent heroics, F**K the beast anaw!

Another massive 3 pts @ Easter Rd granted…but I dont think I’ve seen Terminal FC play well all season….you’s are easily pleased. Sally couldni manage a dump and Judgement Day is looming. You’ve gotta love Kharma eh?

The furures bright in Green and WHYTE. ;)
